Printing with a Pi-Top

I am trying to use CUPS. (Common Unix Printing System)

I am having no luck.

Has anyone got CUPS to work?

Should I use the GutenPrint driver?

I have installed CUPS on pi-topOS and it works fine with both Text Editor and LibreOffice.

I did the following

sudo apt-get install cups

sudo usermod -a -G lpadmin pi

Then I opened Menu->Internet->Web Browser (Chromium was unable or much too slow to do it) and the following address

  localhost:631

Then I selected the Administration tab and added my printer, a networked HP Officejet Pro 8600.

The printer was discovered right away. I selected the generic gutenprint officejet pro driver and set all options to default.

Since then printing works like a charm. No problems so far.

Where does your installation fail?

Rene,

Thanks very much for sharing these instructions - they worked for me too.

Regards,

John

i wanted to print to an HP 1320N  laser printer on my network from a Pi-top running Polaris/

all I had to do was to add system-config-printer with

sudo apt-get install system-config-printer

I then went to preferences on the menu bar  and selected print settings.  I added the printer.  then  I went into Leafpad and did a test print of a document.  The document printed fine.
