I would be nice to offer a clear plastic slide cover on the top so you can see the Pi.

Yep. A cool option for the Pi-top.
A slide with a small LCD screen could be cool too. Or one with sound.
Endless possibilities.

 

I know it sounds daft, but at 1st I didn't remove the bottom protective paper layer from the slide. When I did I was able to see the Raspberry Pi indicator lights through the smokey plastic. Now I have activity indicators that can be seen to determine activity.

Have you tried this?

 

A third party who has lots of laser printers (and Pirates) could be a good partner for this!
